Ethnic Pop Singer Noraniza To Perform At 'keretapi Sarong' Event
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s undisputed Queen of Ethnic Pop Noraniza Idris hopes her appearance at the ‘Keretapi Sarong 2024’ (KS2024) event this Saturday (Sept 14) will help elevate the popularity of creative ethnic music, especially among the younger generation.
The 56-year-old singer said she came to know of the previous years’ ‘Keretapi Sarong’ events through social media.
“I was drawn to it because it featured (among others) a lot of creative ethnic songs, including my song ‘Dikir Puteri’. I’m excited to be invited to enliven this event because it is a unique and interesting programme,” she told reporters during a press conference on KS2024.
She said the ‘Keretapi Sarong’ programme has a positive impact on the nation as it aims to perpetuate Malaysian culture and heritage.
The ‘Keretapi Sarong’ programme is an annual flash mob event held in conjunction with Malaysia Day. Participants wearing traditional sarongs and pelikat use public transportation networks such as KTM, mass rapid transit, light rail transit and express rail link to get to a predetermined location where they will celebrate Malaysia Day together.
This year, ‘Keretapi Sarong’ returns for its eighth edition with the theme ‘Proudly Malaysian’, and participants will gather simultaneously at selected stations, namely LRT Subang Jaya, LRT Gombak, Putrajaya Sentral, KL Sentral, MRT Kajang, LRT Ampang, MRT TTDI, MRT UPM and MRT Damansara Sentral before heading to a secret final destination.
In addition to the main event in the Klang Valley, the flash mob programme will also take place simultaneously at selected locations nationwide including Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu, Ipoh, Bukit Mertajam and Alor Setar, as well as abroad in Paris, France, and Berlin, Germany.
