Street Performer ‘Abang Mr Bean’ Gets Umrah Sponsorship

KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 (Bernama) -- Known for drawing public attention with his comedic portrayal of the character Mr. Bean while entertaining crowds on the streets, the viral balloon twister affectionately known as ‘Abang Mr Bean’ has been selected as a recipient of the Umrah 1000 Asnaf sponsorship.

Abang Mr Bean, whose real name is Mohd Nizam Mohamad Idrus, 49, expressed his deep gratitude after Ikhlas Com Travel & Umrah Sdn Bhd (ikhlas.com) surprised him with the meaningful offer to perform the umrah pilgrimage.

“I am deeply touched. I never expected that at the beginning of Ramadan, I would receive this surprise from ikhlas.com. What my wife and I have gone through in our journey of life, I feel Allah SWT has repaid us in ways we never imagined,” he said in a statement issued by ikhlas.com today.

According to the statement, the ikhlas.com production crew, together with influencer Edin Komeng, initially bought all of Abang Mr Bean’s balloons, which he sells on a pay-as-you-wish basis, allowing customers to decide how much they want to pay.

After meeting Abang Mr Bean and obtaining approval from the company’s management, the production crew delivered the good news to him and his wife, Suraya Zulkifli.

On the programme, ikhlas.com said it was launched on March 19, 2025, in conjunction with the company’s fifth anniversary celebration, with the mission of empowering local communities to identify selected asnaf recipients and help realise their dream of performing umrah.

The initiative aligns with ikhlas.com’s mission to make umrah accessible to all Muslims, including those who are underprivileged, at least once in their lifetime.
